A career-best score of 88 by Vansh Jani helped Warwickshire Bears to a four-wicket victory over Lancashire in Group A of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at Rugby.

Chasing 312, Warwickshire were 113/2 when 21-year-old Jani arrived at the crease and his boisterous knock proved a key contribution in their triumph, along with the innings of Dan Mousley (67, 61 balls) and Alex Davies (51 not out, 62).

Red Rose batters Marcus Harris (89, 90) and Rocky Flintoff (61, 51) had earlier helped to set the hosts an imposing total, which was eventually chased down with x balls to spare.

Put in, Lancashire relinquished the early wicket of Matty Hurst, who edged Oliver Hannon-Dalby (2/71) through to wicket-keeping counterpart Davies.

Lancashire head coach Steven Croft said

"We were aiming for around 300 and I think at the 45 over mark, we thought it would maybe stretch out a little bit more. I thought they bowled, especially their last two, sets pretty well. We were pretty confident at half time that 311 was going to be a defendable score.

"If we were being clinical, we would have liked someone to go three figures and to bat around and that might have been the small difference for us and probably similar to them.  It might have been an easier chase if they had someone to take them over the line as well. I think probably from both sides we just lacked that clinical edge, really.

"I thought it was a great effort to take it deep, we showed some great character at the end there.
I feel like we probably had one that slipped through our hands at 150 and to get into the middle order that little bit quicker, with almost 150 odd runs to get, I think, would have been interesting."
