When Sir James Anderson ran in with the new cherry against Gloucestershire at Bristol on Friday morning, he would have done so knowing that he was bowling to a prospective team-mate in Ben Charlesworth.
The move to bring Charlesworth to Lancashire for 2027 - on a three-year contract - has been in the pipeline for a good few weeks now.
The county’s name were immediately linked to his signature upon the news released by his current county on the eve of the new summer that the 25-year-old would be leaving Nevil Road at the end of the season.
Red Rose captain Anderson didn’t actually dismiss Charlesworth in the Red Rose success. George Balderson and Paul Coughlin had that pleasure, for 26 and 13.
