Lancashire's brave call as Sir James Anderson leaves centre stage

Lancashire’s decision not to offer Sir James Anderson a new contract for 2027 is a very brave one to say the least.

Lancashire’s decision not to offer Sir James Anderson a new contract for 2027 is a very brave one to say the least.

The wrong decision or the right one? No one can say that with certainty even if they suggest otherwise in the bonkers world of social media.

A surprise one? Absolutely, 100 percent, following his superb 50-wicket contribution from 11 matches in a struggling Rothesay County Championship team during the summer just gone.

Given Anderson’s age, 44, his remarkable career was going to end some time soon. A pre-season injury ruling him out for the first couple of months and people would be labelling an extension as a waste of money.
