Last season, Lancashire were joined by Surrey as the two counties who needed a bottle of Brasso, the old silverware polish. And this year, there is every chance that will be the same scenario.

That’s the view of journalist Mark Church, who is involved in our CounterPress partner site, The Rey, which covers Surrey Cricket.

However, he does expect both counties to be pushed hard by rivals who were envious of their success in 2025.

While the Red Rose county’s women won the Metro Bank One-Day Cup and Vitality T20 County Cup double, Surrey sandwiched the Vitality Blast in between. They even won that competition on their home ground at the Kia Oval, which hosted Finals Day last summer and will do again this.
