Lancashire fans would do well to take a leaf out of Corporal Jones’s phrasebook after a hugely frustrating end to a dominant - but not perfect - display against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road, which finished yesterday.

There are no doubts that day four evoked memories of a 2025 summer which left us with an ‘Ah, Bugger’ feeling on more than the odd occasion.

But if they just touch up on a few areas, it will surely happen sooner rather than later for Steven Croft and Sir James Anderson, et al.
