Sir James Anderson knows better than anyone just what it takes to be an England fast bowler, and Lancashire’s captain has backed one of his current team-mates to follow him into Test Cricket.

Those days are now gone for Anderson even if - day by day - he is making the decision to retire him early back in mid-summer 2024 look premature. But now is really not the time to be raking across that old ground. After all, more importantly, Lancashire have just won a corker.

For Mitch Stanley, however, Red Rose captain Anderson believes the days of pounding in at the likes of Lord’s, the MCG and Newlands are very much ahead of him.

Anderson was speaking after leading Lancashire over the line against Derbyshire at Emirates Old Trafford today to really kick their Rothesay County Championship promotion bid into gear after last week’s near miss at Northamptonshire.
