David Thorley knows a fair bit about packing a punch, with Lancashire landing some heavy blows in 2025 to cement their place as the undisputed market leaders in English women’s cricket.
Before Thorley, the county’s director of women’s cricket, arrived at Emirates Old Trafford just as Covid was becoming all the rage in early 2020, he worked as head of talent and competitions as well as the acting chief executive for England Boxing in Sheffield.
A Burnley native who had previously worked in stadium safety at EOT and then with the ICC as a women’s cricket manager, Thorley helped smooth the development of the likes of Daniel and Caroline Dubois: “The exciting one at the moment is Moses Itauma, who is a fast-emerging heavyweight. He’s very, very good.
“I managed to help get England back into the top few spaces in world and European events, but they weren’t in a bad place at the time with the talent available. Here, when we started, we were at the bottom. Lancashire Thunder had only won a handful of games across four years in the Kia Super League.
