David Thorley, Lancashire’s director of women’s cricket, says Chris Read “really shone through” during the interview process for the county’s new head coach during the second half of 2023. 

It was just after the Charlotte Edwards Cup Finals Day in June 2023 that Paul Shaw informed Thorley that he would be stepping down as coach after four seasons in charge at Emirates Old Trafford.

“I was very fortunate with how open the communication was with Shawsy,” said Thorley. “We had a fantastic relationship, and we still do now.

“We’d worked together previously and worked closely when I was in boxing, before taking this job.
