Last summer’s double-winning head coach Chris Read has revealed four reasons why the opportunity to succeed Paul Shaw at Emirates Old Trafford just over two years ago was “very, very appealing”.
Read officially took charge of Lancashire’s women on January 1, 2024, and has since built on the early good work of Yorkshireman Shaw. Last year’s triumphs in the Vitality County T20 Cup and Metro Bank One-Day Cup prove that beyond doubt.
Read was capped 52 times by England across all formats, including 15 times in Test Matches, between 1999 and 2007. A highly-skilled wicketkeeper-batter whose style of play screamed ‘I hate losing’, he is a Nottinghamshire legend who captained them to the County Championship title in 2010 at his current home ground.
Old Trafford has certainly been kind to this 47-year-old Devonian.
