Harris and Perry set to miss season opener - but Steven Croft delighted with overseas recruitment

“It’s great for them to get to the Shield final, but it would be too tight of a turnaround to expect them to play and be fully fit in that first game.”

Lancashire are planning to be without overseas Australians Marcus Harris and Mitch Perry for their season-opener away at Northamptonshire on April 3 after Victoria qualified for the Sheffield Shield final at the end of this month.

Prolific batter Harris is returning to Emirates Old Trafford for a second year after topping the 1,300 run mark in both the Rothesay County Championship and Metro Bank One-Day Cup combined last summer.

His state team-mate, the emerging fast bowler Perry, is joining him on a deal which will cover the first block of Division Two matches through April and May.

The Shield final, which the Vics will host, runs between March 26 and 30. So to expect them to line up at Wantage Road less than a week later would be pretty unrealistic.
