Paul Allott has revealed how Christchurch’s Hagley Oval provided the inspiration when coming to get Lancashire’s Farington Project off the ground.

The Red Rose fast-bowling legend has been working in an advisory capacity on the county’s new second home, on the outskirts of Preston, since stepping down as director of cricket at the end of the 2021 season.

Prior to his four-year tenure in that role, Allott was on the county’s board and combined that with TV commentary work for Sky Sports. He still does some commentary mentoring work for them.

“This was basically a pipe-dream when I was covering the 2015 World Cup in New Zealand,” he said as the club opened its doors on the new facility yesterday.
