The Northerners are on the up when it comes to Disability cricket in England, and Lancashire are absolutely doing their bit in that regard. And the county’s Quest head coach John Hughes couldn’t be happier.
The Red Rose county are still basking in the glory of last year’s glorious national title triumph, which saw them beat Hampshire by 137 runs in the Quest League final in Kidderminster last August. Lancashire topped the North Group, Hampshire doing likewise in down at t’other end of the country.
After a period of Southern domination by the likes of Surrey, Middlesex and Hampshire, who have all won titles in the last decade, Lancashire and Yorkshire have triumphed in two of the last three years.
Yorkshire won it in 2023 - a painful memory for Lancashire given they were pipped right at post that summer having been bowled out for 80 in a home defeat against Sussex. Had they won that day, it would have been them lifting the title. Instead, Yorkshire - rained off down at Surrey - had done enough.
