From Brunswick to Burnley. Getting to know Lancashire's new twos coach, Dan Salpietro

The affable 38-year-old may be a true blue Aussie hailing from the Melbourne hipster hotspot of Brunswick, though he very much falls into the category of adopted Lancastrian as well.

Dan Salpietro describes himself as “a second-team stalwart” when looking back on his state and domestic playing career in Australia some decade-and-a-half ago. With that in mind, he seems like an ideal appointment as Lancashire’s new twos coach.

As an all-rounder, Salpietro played five times for the Victoria and the Adelaide Strikers before moving into coaching, with Tasmania his first stop.

His state playing career ended in Tasmania’s second team, or otherwise known as their Futures League team, in late 2016 alongside Tim Paine, who was not long away from taking over as Australia’s Test captain. He also played in the same team as Ben McDermott, who will this summer join Lancashire as a Vitality Blast overseas player.

Unable to break into first-team cricket on a regular basis, Salpietro knows the peaks and troughs facing all players at that level, be it young up and comers trying to make their way or experienced pros who haven’t quite cracked it.
