Report by Jamie Bowman on behalf of the ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay.

Half-centuries from Heather Knight and Dani Gibson helped Somerset beat Lancashire by four wickets at Southport.

Lancashire had set a competitive target of 259-8 thanks to half-centuries of their own from skipper Ellie Threlkeld (71) and Fi Morris (52).

But, despite three wickets from England spinner Sophie Ecclestone, the visitors reached the winning total with 13 balls remaining.

Former England captain Knight top-scored with 63 for the visitors, who have now won two from two to start the season. International team-mate Gibson was not far behind with 60.

They shared a crucial 53 for the fifth wicket from 132-4.

Champions Lancashire have now won one, lost two at the start of the competition and face Yorkshire at Emirates Old Trafford on Saturday.

Lancashire captain Ellie Threlkeld said

"It was a game of fairly fine margins, and we're disappointed to be on the wrong side of it.

"We probably left a few runs out there. It was a bit of a slow start, but we gained some momentum, which was good. Then, ultimately, the game got away from us with that partnership between Heather Knight and Dani Gibson.

"I guess there's a lot of areas we got right, but others that we got wrong."We'll have to reflect on that as a group and aim to bounce back next weekend against Yorkshire."
